Two Mugs

What works best

The same two mugs on the same kitchen table, every morning, for years. Your two names are lettered on the mugs; the light through the window turns with the seasons, the calendar's pages flip and count the years up to this one, a plant grows on the sill and your photos go up on the fridge one magnet at a time. On the last morning the steam from the two mugs makes a heart, and the calendar's last page is written by hand: happy anniversary, the number of years, your message, and your name.
