The Rangoli

What works best

A rangoli laid in coloured powder on a stone doorstep at dusk: the dot grid is pricked out, ring after ring is poured round, marigolds are scattered and four clay diyas are lit. The pattern is drawn from your family's name — no two households get the same one — and your name is written round the inner ring. Add your photo and it sits at the very centre in a brass rim.
